National Academy celebrated its 33rd anniversary as a Private Career College, one of Canada’s oldest and most trusted, while also accepting the Reader’s Choice Gold Award for Best Career School. This recognition is the latest in the history of a school that has been recognized for its outstanding education, personable and experienced staff & faculty and ample employment prospects for its graduates.

National Academy, with both a Mississauga and Hamilton campus, offers a range of specialized Diploma programs in Healthcare, Business and Law. Students enjoy hands-on, instructor-led training, blended with a rich history of a successful culture that gives its graduates a jump start into their career. Their recipe for success involves small classes, job placements and instructors with real-world experience. Within just a few minutes of visiting a National Academy campus, it’s evident that they are committed to your success and career goals. Unlike traditional educational institutions, National Academy focuses on applied learning. The student experience is interactive, intimate and accountable. Students are prepared for success throughout their program, known on a first name basis and guided towards success.

The university and college system focus on student volume, while National Academy is focused on student success. With class sizes under 20 (not 200) and hands-on training versus strictly theoretical, it is clear that National Academy sets a new benchmark in the education industry. “Our success is our students and the graduates that we prepare for employment” explains Mark Harrington, President of National Academy. “From our industry-low OSAP default rate (meaning that graduates get jobs and pay back their OSAP) to the experience that our faculty shares with our students in the classroom, we are proud of what we’ve built and the opportunities that our students and graduates have. The recognition of Best Career College is a tribute to our staff and students.” he adds. OSAP Defaults gauge the success of a school’s graduates through its ability to repay their student loans. In logic, a working graduate is able to repay their student loan without default. National Academy, for the 3rd year in a row, came in at 7.8% (92.2% re-payment) – significantly better than the average of all private career colleges (15.2%, 84.8% re-payment) and community colleges such as Sheridan College and Mohawk College (10.5% Default, 89.5% re-payment).

With innovative Diploma programs, including Medical Lab Technician, Intra-Oral Dental Assistant and Police Foundations, National Academy offers more than 15 Diploma programs in Healthcare, Business and Law.

National Academy of Health & Business, a leading career college with campuses in Mississauga and Hamilton, Ontario, was recently awarded the status of Qualifying Accreditation by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (‘CCAPP’). This means that National Academy Pharmacy Technician graduates (and only graduates from other CCAPP programs) are eligible to become registered Pharmacy Technicians in Ontario.

The accreditation status from CCAPP is the result of a tremendous amount work put in by several individuals including National Academy employees and many external advisors. National Academy has also made a significant financial investment into its facility and equipment so that the new Pharmacy Technician program now has its own dedicated state-of-the-art 500 square foot laboratory.

According to Workopolis and Service Canada, Pharmacy Technician and Assistants are expected to be one of the highest demand careers in Canada. This is likely due to Canada’s aging population leading to a continued demand for healthcare and related services. In addition, new regulations in Ontario have given Pharmacy Technicians more responsibility, such as the ability to verbally accept prescriptions; the authority to operate a pharmacy independently in remote and more. These factors should also contribute to the demand for and increased compensation of Pharmacy Technicians in Ontario.

National Academy will offer its first Pharmacy Technician program on January 30, 2012 at the College’s Mississauga campus. Enrollment will be limited so prospective students are urged to apply early. The accelerated diploma program takes place over 40 weeks (including 8 week hospital and retail pharmacy job placement). The college offers up to five funding options, including OSAP (to those who qualify), Second Career, interest free payment plans, loans, etc.

National Academy of Health & Business is a registered career college with campuses in Mississauga (905 273 6656) and Hamilton (905 521 9991). The college has been providing Healthcare, Business and Law Enforcement training since 1979.

Great News for Students, Staff and NAHB!

We are proud to communicate some exciting news that was recently published by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.

Every year, the Ministry releases information on OSAP default rates for all Community and Private Career Colleges. A low default rate suggests that graduates are in a better financial position following graduation which suggests they’re working.

For the second year in a row, National Academy’s default rate was not only lower than the average private career college default rate, but also lower than the average default rate of all Community College (Sheridan, Mohawk, etc) graduates. This is a significant achievement.

This result is due to the combined efforts of our students, faculty and administrative staff. We’d like to thank everyone for their continued dedication, support and commitment to our Mission.

It’s something we should all be proud of.

We were at a career fair today and were delighted to speak with many job and education seekers. By far, the most common question we received was: “Which career offers the best chance of getting a job?”. Read on for full details or call us to arrange an appointment with one of our experienced career counselors. 905 273 6656.

We constantly research this topic and given that it is clearly a question you have probably asked as well, we thought we’d share with you a great article that answers the question very well (appeared on the Workopolis website earlier this year).

We’ve summarized the key points of the article below and pasted the entire article at the end of this email. Please note that although the careers listed below are expected to be the highest in demand in Canada, students should also consider: “which career will I enjoy and be good at?”. In our opinion, and based on our own research, all our programs result in high demand careers – although some may be higher than others, it is important to note that if you enjoy your selected career, are trained well and are good at it – your chances of success will be very positive.

So, which careers are booming, and why?

The first wave of baby boomers are about to turn 65. This will lead to increases in the need for medical assistance – benefiting all healthcare workers over the next several years.

Many current healthcare workers will begin to retire, resulting in the creation of many healthcare related job opening.

The primary careers expected to benefit from these trends are:

Dental Assistant

Dental assistants can perform a number of duties in support of a dentist. These can include polishing teeth, applying fluoride, preparing patients for dental examinations, preparing dental instruments and taking x-rays. Dental assistants require training in a college program and, in all provinces but Quebec, licensing is mandatory.

Pharmacy Assistant

Pharmacy assistants assist pharmacists by preparing, packaging and labeling pharmaceutical products. They also verify prescriptions, maintain patient records and monitor inventories of medications and pharmaceutical products. Pharmacy assistants require completion of secondary school and a college program.

Personal Support Worker / Nurse Aide

Nurse Aides attend to the needs of patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities. They may be involved in answering call signals, serving meals, take patient’s blood pressure, collect fluid specimens, maintain inventory of supplies and perform maintenance tasks such as cleaning and sterilizing equipment. A Nurse Aide usually requires a college program with practical, on-the-job training.

Call today. 905 273 6656.

The National Academy of Health & Business
Training Healthcare, Business & Law Enforcement Specialists Since 1979

FULL ARTICLE

Canada is on the cusp of a major change. The first wave of our country’s aging baby boomers is about to turn 65. With this milestone birthday comes retirement, of course, along with a host of challenges that will dramatically transform the country. Most significantly, mass retirement will have a striking impact upon employment and health care in Canada.

As Canadians enter their golden years, they will be turning to the medical community to keep them healthy. In fact, over the next twenty five years, the passage of about 10 million boomers into retirement will present both major challenges and opportunities for our country’s medical system. From dental work to x-rays to in-home support, these new Canadian seniors will be creating a significant demand for health care across the board.

In addition to the increased need for health care, as older workers retire, the mass retirement will create openings for advancement and entry into jobs previously held by boomers. In short, the swell in the senior population spells out security for workers in the health care industry and opportunity for students seeking a future with good prospects.

According to Jobfutures.ca, Canada’s National Career and Education planning tool, a number of occupations in the health care industry have been given the “Good Prospect” stamp of approval. By “Good”, the government of Canada is indicating that new entrants into that particular field have “a relatively easy time finding permanent employment in targeted occupations with relatively high pay or attractive labour market conditions.”

Of the forty or so occupations listed as “Good” prospects for 2009, over half are in the health care industry. As the country prepares for the upcoming 25 years of boomer retirement and its accompanying need for increased health care, this number can only be expected to rise-good news for current employees

The college was first registered in 1979 in Hamilton and moved its campus to Mississauga in 1999. Following a twelve year absence, the college decided to return to its roots by opening a second campus in Hamilton’s city centre. The current President, Mark Harrington, said: “We are very excited to be re-opening a new campus in Hamilton. Despite a difficult economic landscape over the past several years, the city remains rich in history and full of pride. It offers tremendous potential to current residents and we look forward to contributing to the city’s future success as a business, employer and, most importantly, as a provider of quality education. We believe our areas of expertise: Healthcare, Business and Law, perfectly complement the City’s future job opportunities; particularly Healthcare, which is expected to continue to grow as an industry in Hamilton”.

The college’s Mississauga campus achieved one of the lowest OSAP repayment default rates in Ontario (suggesting its graduates have become better off financially) and expects to leverage its success in Hamilton.

Candidates are asked to fill out the entry form on the website: nahb.ca/scholarship. The winning entrant will be determined by a community vote on Wednesday, December 15th 2010 at the kitestring Christmas Spectacular in Hamilton (visit www.kitestring.ca/spectacular for details).

The scholarship includes tuition, books and related supplies. Contest Closes Friday, December 14th at midnight.

Applicants and prospective students can arrange an appointment with one of our experienced career counselors calling us in Mississauga (905 273 6656) or Hamilton (905 521 9991).

It is our view that the process involved in finding the right job involves at least four key steps.

Identifying your key strengths and interests (please speak with one of our experienced career counselors for more information).

Determine which career to pursue based on your strengths and interests (again, our counselors can help you with this).

Ensure you have the necessary skills/education. To begin your search for a program offered by us (www.nahb.ca) or any other college, go to the “Programs” tab and select the area of study you wish to learn more about.

Execute your job search. Click here to access the complete Personal Job Search Guide we create for O.A.C.C. The process is not an easy one and should be considered a full-time job – however, it is worth your time, as it will pay you back ten-fold over the years.

We will always ‘bend over backwards’ to ensure our students are happy, receive the education they deserve and find jobs. Whether you are a former, current or future student, we’re here to help.
